BAE Systems Australia has launched a Veterans Employment Best Practice guide to share the company’s experience and success in attracting, recruiting and retaining veteran talent. The company’s commitment to becoming an employer of choice for veterans was recognised last year when BAE Systems won with the Prime Minister’s Veteran Employer of Choice Award.
It was on the back of this award that the company sought to display Thought Leadership in the area of veteran employment and developed the Best Practice guide for other businesses wanting to engage and support veterans in their organisation. Achieving the award is a reflection of two years of work by the company’s Veterans Advisory Committee. This committee provides advice and governance and have instigated a number of initiatives to ensure that BAE Systems is able to attract, recruit, transition and retain the best veteran talent, including the Veterans Employment Best Practice guide.
BAE Systems Australia CEO Ben Hudson said: “As a veteran, I know that people who have served have a lot to offer and not just in the Defence sector. Their defence force experience means that they have an abundance of highly valued and translatable skills and attributes such as leadership, teamwork and commitment that is highly relevant and sought after by any business. Every employer will approach veteran recruitment differently and we’re delighted to share some of the elements that are working for us.”
More than 10 percent of BAE Systems’ 5,500-strong workforce has served in the military and a further 200 continue to serve as reservists. The company’s strong veteran employee network is supported by a range of policies, programs and initiatives to engage veterans in the business.
