Boeing Defence Australia and iDiC sign renewed MoU

  • Renewed Memorandum of Understanding marks BDA’s ongoing commitment to strengthening Indigenous supply chain.

BRISBANE, Australia,  December 3, 2019 – Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) today solidified its commitment to Reconciliation and strengthening its Indigenous supply chain partnerships through a renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indigenous Defence & Infrastructure Consortium (iDiC).

The new agreement builds on the current MoU in place since 2016, and will now outline specific targets for invoiced spend over the next three years, strengthening BDA’s commitment to include indigenous businesses into its supply chain.

“Our renewed MoU with iDiC is an important milestone in our commitment to building sovereign capability,” said BDA vice president and managing director Scott Carpendale. “Local supplier partnerships are an enormous strength of The Boeing Company and are a key driver behind our ability to provide agile and innovative solutions to our customers.”

BDA’s spend on Indigenous suppliers has shown marked growth over the past six years, reporting in at just $9,000 in 2013 to a projected spend of $3.5 million in 2019.

Carpendale said the growth is due to a deliberate focus of his team to support growing Indigenous business sector in line with its Reconciliation Action Plan. “Our partnership with iDiC has been instrumental in building our Indigenous supply chain and has driven us to find new and innovative ways to help Indigenous-owned businesses enter the defence industry”, said Mr Carpendale. “Boeing is committed to supporting Reconciliation in a way that delivers meaningful and sustainable opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.”

Acting as a single point of contact for over 90 indigenous businesses through second tier procurement, iDiC has worked hand-in-hand with Boeing to strengthen the Indigenous supply chain as well as Boeing’s local supplier base since 2016.

“Indigenous business capabilities are being recognised because of dedicated industry partnerships similar to the one we have with BDA,” said Adam Goodes, CEO of iDiC.
