Celebrating 15 years of Milspec Manufacturing
Rheinmetall Defence Australia has been proud to participate in Milspec Manufacturing’s anniversary celebrations in Albury with the family-owned SME continuing to grow on the back of major Australian Defence Force procurement programs such as Land 121 Phase 3B.
Family-owned Milspec has been supplying technology and componentry to the defence industry for over 15 years and is regarded as a premier Australian defence SME for subsystems including brushless alternators, auxiliary power units, portable power and wiring harnesses for use in military vehicles.
Rheinmetall logistics vehicle subsidiary Rheinmetall MAN Australia will deliver more than 2,500 vehicles in multiple configurations under the Land 121 Phase 3B program. Milspec is among Australian SMEs across metropolitan and regional Australia delivering products and services to the program.
Rheinmetall Defence Australia Managing Director Andrew Fletcher said the scope of Milspec’s contracted work had grown significantly over the past 12 months.
The initial order of Vehicle Installation Kits – which refers to the Radio and Battle Management System display brackets and mountings – has now expanded to a range of new products including roof frames, wire cutters, stowage boxes, markers and sign holders.
Milspec has expanded its operations to meet demands associated with these new supply contracts by employing 40 staff and installing a robot welding cell.
The celebrations enabled the community to see the machining, robotic welding, electronic assembly, engineering and design work undertaken by Milspec employees to meet contracts from some of the Australia’s major defence primes. Rheinmetall MAN Australia transported an HX40M vehicle to Milspec’s facility in Albury as part of the industry showcase.
“Having the vehicles there will really help the families understand how the subsystems Milspec manufacture fit with the ADF & defence primes in Australia,” Mr Fletcher said.
