Queensland Research Labs announced it has changed its name to Q-Phase. The move marks its transition from a research-focused entity to a sovereign defence technology developer. The new name reflects the foundation of the company’s work in quantum and nanotechnology. Q-Phase designs and develops nano-engineered materials that form the basis of a new generation of passive survivability technology designed to reduce the detectability of defence platforms across multiple parts of the electromagnetic spectrum, including thermal, radar, electro-optical, and LiDAR sensing.
Q-Phase’s platform-agnostic approach can be applied across land, maritime, aerospace, and autonomous systems.
Q-Phase Co-Founder Malcolm Lamont said the rebrand was a name that better fits what the company has become. “Our previous name reflected where the company started, as a research office. It doesn’t really capture what we are building now. Q-Phase is a name that speaks directly to the scientific foundation of everything we do: nano-engineered materials that give Australian and allied forces a real edge in survivability. We are building a sovereign Australian technology, developed and owned here, for a capability our allies will need for the long term.”
Co-Founder Greg Wilson said the company was moving from laboratory validation towards engineering scale-up and capability demonstration, with a focus on establishing sovereign manufacturing capability. “We are confident the science is validated. Now it’s about industrialising it here in Queensland, at scale, and getting it into the hands of Australian and allied warfighters.”
The rebrand comes as Q-Phase works towards a series of demonstration milestones over the next 12-18 months. Q-Phase will retain its existing operations and personnel in Southeast Queensland under the new name, with the rebrand taking effect immediately across the company’s corporate identity.
