DMTC announced that Milan Gandhi is among 18 recipients of scholarships awarded by the General Sir John Monash Foundation. Gandhi currently works for DMTC, assisting to drive innovation in Australia’s defence and national security sectors.  Gandhi has received a scholarship named in honour of prominent philanthropist, Lee Liberman. With the support of his John Monash Scholarship, Milan plans to undertake a Master of Public Policy at Sciences Po (France).

DMTC CEO, Dr Mark Hodge, said Milan had made an immediate impact on the DMTC team. “Milan only joined us two years ago but his contribution to a range of DMTC activities has been considerable,” Hodge said. “Whether it has been areas of his own formidable expertise or in new areas for him, we have all benefited enormously from his perspective and his capacity to drive innovation, but also from his drive, perseverance and humility. We’re just delighted for him.”

Gandhi has made significant contributions to a range of DMTC programs including the Office of the General Counsel, t

he health security policy work of the newly established Health Security division and the work to develop the company’s Diversity and Inclusion Strategy.

“It’s fitting that these scholarships are awarded by the General Sir John Monash Foundation. Like Sir John himself, I’m sure that Milan and his peers in this year’s cohort will demonstrate their capabilities and apply their knowledge in a diverse range of endeavours across their careers,” DMTC’s Head of Health Security Systems Australia, Dr Leigh Farrell, said. “With no disrespect to his peers or to scholars awarded in previous years, I don’t think the team scrutinising this year’s applications could have chosen a more deserving candidate than Milan.”

Gandhi has a Bachelor of Laws (1st Class Honours) from the University of Queensland and is a former Australian Law Student of the Year. He is also the founder of The Legal Forecast, an organisation exploring the intersection between law and new technologies. Australia’s most prestigious postgraduate overseas study program received 245 applications for the 2022 intake, ultimately selecting 18 recipients. The scholarship selection criteria included demonstrated excellence in their field, leadership ability and a vision to deliver a positive impact for the benefit of Australia.
