IAS Asia Pacific, which manufactures wide-area optical search systems, announced that the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) has awarded it a contract to develop an advanced prototype for a next generation Network Expendable Optical Sensor (NEOS). Chosen for the innovative nature of its proposal and the strength of its experiences as a world leader in the provision of optical search sensors, the RAAF NEOS contract underscores IAS Asia Pacific as a leader in Optical Radar technology.

NEOS is designed to explore how a rapidly deployable, agnostic advanced optical sensor can make major platforms more efficient, effective and survivable, while providing transformative coverage over wide areas of both land and ocean beneath the sensor.

“IAS is one of the world’s leading providers of Optical Radars both here in Australia and Internationally and we are honoured to be selected by the Royal Australian Air Force to demonstrate this advanced optical payload” said Simon Olsen, vice president for business development and strategy, IAS Asia Pacific. “Australia is currently tendering for unmanned aircraft systems for the Navy, the Army as well as the Air Force. The core consistency of these platform requirements is the need to resolve complex ISR challenges in contested and challenging environments. IAS is looking forward to providing optical search payload solutions that ensure that each of our services retains a fundamental ISR advantage in the battlespace, regardless of where they are called to operate” said Olsen.

For this proposal, IAS was supported by X-TEK of Canberra, Australia, which will provide critical mission system support through the customised integration of its XTAtlas exploitation tool to drive the NEOS sensor. IAS will be providing the Australian Air Force with the first variant prototype capability during the middle of 2021.
