Lockheed Martin x Girls in Tech Announce Singapore STEM Partnership
Leading security and aerospace company Lockheed Martin today announced a year-long partnership with global NPO Girls in Tech to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education and careers across Asia. Launching first in Singapore, the partnership will also support programs developed by Girls in Tech in Indonesia, and the Republic of Korea.
The partnership kicks off today with its first activity, a STEM-focused symposium at the Singapore Youth Flying Club, featuring a panel of women leaders in aerospace and technology. The symposium aims to further provoke the conversation about the importance and benefit of STEM education, and spark serious interest in the pursuit of STEM education and careers by more female secondary school students.
55 students and teachers participated in today’s event representing the following schools; Raffles Girls School, Methodist Girls School, CHIJ Katong Convent, UWCSEA East and Dover, Eunoia Junior College, Yishun Junior College, Changkat Changi Secondary School, and Compassvale Secondary School.

“Today’s event was an eye-opening experience. There’s not much exposure to us girls about STEM, so this was a good opportunity to see how we can do anything we put our minds to. The sky is the limit!”

“It’s refreshing to see young minds interact with, and be inspired by leaders in the field of aerospace. We encourage this kind of engagement to promote STEM within our communities, and draw the best minds towards innovating solutions for tomorrow’s challenges,” shared David Jensen, Regional Executive for Southeast Asia at the event. “We look forward to the event in Singapore being the starting point of the year-long program, and a wonderful relationship with Girls in Tech.”
Quote from Wan Ting Poh, Managing Director of Girls in Tech Singapore
“Girls in Tech Singapore is very excited to be the first country to kick-start this partnership with Lockheed Martin. Given Singapore’s long-standing aspiration to be the region’s aviation hub and a smart nation, it’s timely and beneficial to encourage participation from a diverse audience, particularly from the female community that is currently underrepresented in STEM industries,” said Wan Ting Poh, Managing Director of Girls in Tech Singapore. “GITSG have been actively encouraging this through engagements with schools, teachers and parents. With this partnership, we hope to further empower the female student community to make more informed career choices by opening up options to them especially through engaging role models from leading STEM companies such as Lockheed Martin.”
Quote from Charles (Chuck) Jones, Regional Executive for Lockheed Martin in Asia
“STEM is an essential part of Lockheed Martin, and we are delighted to partner with Girls in Tech to encourage young people, particularly female students, to explore STEM education and careers,” said Charles (Chuck) Jones, Regional Executive for Lockheed Martin in Asia. “We believe that STEM education benefits from close collaboration between industry, educators and grassroots organisations. Through initiatives like this, we aim to inspire the STEM talents of tomorrow, who come in all shapes, sizes, and genders.” he added.
