The period of this contract is to the end of 2025. Building on five years of continuous support to the Royal Australian Navy, this contract extension ensures the ongoing development and delivery of the Aegis Sustainment Program, reinforcing Australia’s defence capabilities.

Lockheed Martin Australia has steadily grown its sovereign Aegis maritime workforce to over 140 employees, dedicated to supporting both the fleet of Hobart-class Destroyers and future Hunter-class Frigates. Under this 12-month contract, Lockheed Martin Australia’s Aegis team, based in Sydney, will continue to provide advanced naval combat systems engineering services, such as system updates, alignments, material condition assessments and more. Sustainment support services are inclusive of the development and coordination of detailed design aspects of the combat system, and related artefacts, ensuring a coherent engineering baseline is maintained across the Destroyers.

Acquired by the Commonwealth under Foreign Military Sales arrangements with the United States, the Aegis Combat System benefits from continuous reach-back support to the US for in-service sustainment and capability development. Fielded on over 100 ships worldwide, Aegis is the world’s most advanced combat system, providing the Royal Australian Navy with the tactical edge to combat current and evolving threats.

Warren McDonald, Chief Executive Lockheed Martin Australia New Zealand said, “This contract extension represents a significant milestone in our commitment to supporting the Royal Australian Navy and strengthening Australia’s sovereign defence capabilities. Since 2020, we have had the privilege of working closely with the Navy to ensure operational readiness, while steadily growing the Aegis industrial base. We look forward to building on that strong foundation with the Navy.”

Gavin Douglas, Lockheed Martin Australia’s Integrated Warfare Systems and Sensors Line of Business Lead commented, “We are proud to continue supporting the Royal Australian Navy through this contract extension, which reflects the positive and enduring collaboration between our teams. Our focus remains on world-class solutions that enhance the operational readiness of the Hobart Class Destroyers, and we are honoured to contribute to the Navy’s mission of safeguarding Australia’s interests. With our ability to leverage technical reach back to Lockheed Martin in the US, Lockheed Martin Australia is uniquely placed to deliver a comprehensive Aegis Sustainment Program specifically tailored to the Royal Australian Navy’s needs. This not only provides a cost benefit to the Commonwealth it increases national self-reliance and improves availability of naval assets.”
