More than 350 U.S. Marines and Sailors came ashore at Darwin’s East Arm Wharf as part of Exercise Capital Reach, concluding a sea transit aboard HMAS Canberra.
During the transit from Townsville to Darwin, U.S. Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey aircraft conducted landing and take-off qualifications on HMAS Canberra, demonstrating the high level of aviation interoperability and integration achieved between Australian and U.S. forces. The package includes compelling vision of Osprey flight operations, flight deck activities and joint training at sea.
Working alongside the Royal Australian Navy, personnel and military vehicles were transported to shore using Australian landing craft, demonstrating the ability of Australian and U.S. forces to operate together in a complex maritime environment. The activity highlights the close partnership between Australia and the United States and showcases the rapid deployment, aviation and logistics capabilities of the two militaries in northern Australia.
The arrival marks the latest phase of the 15th rotation of Marine Rotational Force-Darwin, which sees U.S. Marines train and operate alongside the Australian Defence Force across northern Australia and the broader Indo-Pacific region.
