Veteran-owned global healthcare solutions provider Aspen Medical has appointed Craig Fitzgerald as Group CEO following Bruce Armstrong’s move to the Board as an Executive Director. Both took up their new positions on 1 January 2025.
Fitzgerald brings almost 20 years of operational experience to the Group CEO role having started with Aspen Medical on the RAMSI contract as In-Country Manager and then moved back to Australia as Director – Operations. Since then, he has held many roles, from GM – Defence On Base Health Services, Executive Director – International Operations, and global Chief Operations Officer.
Prior to joining Aspen Medical in 2005, Fitzgerald had a 20-year career in the Australian Army. Enlisting as a soldier in 1985, he served in the Australian Army Aviation Corps as an Aircraft Handler and a JNCO Air Crewman Observer. After graduating from the Royal Military College in 1993, he was commissioned into the Royal Australian Infantry Corps and posted as a Platoon Commander to the 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR). Craig later served as a Company Second-in-Command (2IC), Adjutant and Company Commander in 1RAR.
Aspen Medical currently provides support to the Australian Defence Force through its contracts providing training for the new deployable health capability, which includes biomedical engineering maintenance training, in addition to medical support for field exercises.
Speaking about the changes, Aspen Medical Executive Chair and Founder Glenn Keys AO said: “I am delighted that Craig has accepted the role of Group CEO. Craig has overseen our operations being delivered on the ground across the world and supported the rolling out of new contracts across the Pacific, UAE, Africa, and here in Australia.
“Craig has also provided critical thought leadership and guidance for the company as we have travelled along our journey of incorporating Social Purpose into a For-Profit business. Through Craig’s passion and leadership, we have embedded Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the company, secured Benefit Corporation (B Corp) certification, and supported the growth and development of the Aspen Medical Foundation,” Keys said. “I am also extremely pleased to that Bruce has accepted my offer, with the unanimous support of the Board, to take up an Executive Director role on the Global Board. In this role, Bruce will fulfill all Board Director responsibilities and provide support for our new Group CEO.”
