Nova Systems is signing a new partnership contract to expand a niche national training program for Australian veterans searching for new jobs outside of the Australian Defence Force (ADF). The StoryRight program, run through The Hospital Research Foundation Group, successfully supports veterans transitioning invaluable skills to the local workforce. Veterans from Nova Systems, an Australian owned and controlled engineering services and technology solutions company, will help provide valuable training experience at a series of workshops around the nation.
Nova Systems was founded in South Australia and its 850-plus global workforce is made up of close to 50 percent veterans. Their recruits range from Queensland-based Nova Systems program manager Kyle Stockman, who graduated from the Australian Defence Force Academy a decade ago and served for 10 years in the ADF, including being deployed to Iraq in 2017.
There is also Adelaide-based Alex Forman, People Officer, with over 10 years service in the Royal Australian Navy and who is currently a Reservist. Forman served on HMAS Tobruk, HMAS Kanimbla, HMAS Darwin and HMAS Toowoomba. After participating in a StoryRight workshop in 2019, Forman has continued to support the Military and Emergency Services Australia by volunteering as a facilitator for these valuable workshops.
“StoryRight is an incredible one-day course as it empowers veterans to translate military lingo, skills and experiences into a language recruiters and civilian employers can understand – providing our ex-service men and women with the tools to communicate the true value and knowledge they bring to the workforce,” she said.
StoryRight was founded in 2017 by Dr Sharon Mascall-Dare, an Iraq veteran, as a peer-to-peer workshop and support network that helps contemporary veterans transition to civilian life by focusing on transferable skills.
The Hospital Research Foundation Group CEO Paul Flynn said these important programs continue to make a real difference in the lives of Australian veterans and other groups in need. “MESHA works closely with current and former military and emergency service personnel and their families to conduct world-class research and provide services that reduces health risks and promotes early intervention and wellbeing. More than 250 ex-service personnel have participated in the program, and with Nova Systems’ generous support, it will enable this popular and proven program to expand and help even more people and their families.”
