DELTA Coatings International has announced the global availability of its DELTAShield High Impact Protection (HIP) polyurea systems. The announcement follows independent, peer-reviewed research confirming the technology’s ability to significantly reduce blast damage and secondary concrete fragmentation.
The research confirms polyurea-coated concrete can reduce blast-induced damage and high-velocity fragment ejection by up to 70 per cent compared to uncoated concrete. The findings have major implications for government, military and national security infrastructure worldwide.
The study was conducted at Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute for High-Speed Dynamics (Ernst-Mach-Institut, EMI). Controlled shock-tube testing and advanced numerical simulations showed how polyurea coatings convert rigid concrete into a blast-resilient composite. The material absorbs shock energy and contains debris under explosive loading.
