APDR Leaderboard (728x90)Indra has successfully completed delivery to the ADF 11 Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) and six Non-Directional Beacons (NDB) across 12 sites including 10 Air Force bases, one Army Aviation centre and a Naval Fleet Air Arm. The ILS is a ground-based radio navigation system giving pilots lateral and vertical guidance towards the runway when visual contact with the runway cannot be established, in poor weather or low visibility.

These highly accurate pieces of equipment are crucial for airports as they increase the reliability of every landing, reduce the decision altitude (altitude at which the pilot either commits to the landing procedure or diverts) and ultimately ensures that the pilot can understand the runway no matter the conditions. Indra 7000B ILS systems are available in a wide range of configurations all meeting the most stringent ICAO Level four requirements and designed to be cost-effective, easy to install and operate, and above all are dependable.

The NDB is a ground based radio transmitter that sends a low frequency signal containing no inherent directional information. This series of NDB are field proven, highly reliable, state of the art, solid-state transmitters with automatic antenna tuning units and three-way guyed single mast antennas. These navigation aids will ensure Defence’s capability to safely train pilots for precision approaches to airfields into the future.

Adam Taylor Business Development Manager of Defence at Indra in Australia said: “These systems will replace Air Force’s legacy equipment and will provide updated technology, enhanced monitoring, diagnostics and functionality, as well as increased flexibility and deployment options, providing important upgrades in deployed airspace and airfield management. The achievement of this critical delivery milestone demonstrates Indra’s commitment to the Australian market and to providing mission critical systems to Australia, through an ongoing partnership between Indra and the ADF. We will now leverage this experience in support of future programs, with the aim of becoming a strategic partner for the modernisation and digitisation of the Armed Forces”.

Indra in Australia has partnered with Australian design, fabrication and construction company IDEC Solutions (www.idec.com.au) to complete the civil works for this project at 12 Defence sites around Australia. This recognises IDEC’s proven capability in delivering civil infrastructure to the ADF and has ensured high levels of Australian Industrial Capability (AIC) content in the program.

Indra is one of the leading global defence companies. It is a top developer of radars, electronic defence systems, electro-optics, command and control solutions, communications, and simulators. As a company deeply committed to innovation, it integrates cutting-edge technologies into its solutions, including AI, cloud computing, advanced communications, and virtual reality. It has supplied systems to NATO and some of the world’s most advanced armed forces, including those of the United States, Spain, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Portugal, Denmark, and Lithuania. It also has significant references in the Arabian Gulf, Latin America, and Asia.

Indra has played a key role in the development of some of the most advanced defence platforms in existence, such as the Eurofighter jet, the A400M military transport aircraft, the 8×8 Dragon and Pizarro armoured vehicles, and various naval vessels and submarines around the world.

Recently, it was awarded the contract to supply the German Air Force with a last generation surveillance radar capable of detecting objects in low space orbit more than 2,000 kilometres from Earth, helping to protect military and civilian satellites from the potential risk of impact with debris or intentional interference. Indra also serves as the national industrial coordinator for the NGWS/FCAS (Next Generation Weapon System/Future Combat Air System), one of the most technologically ambitious defence programs in the world.
