APDR Leaderboard (728x90)The Australian Army Cadets have united two Army Cadet Units (ACU) in North Queensland as part of its commitment to promoting the development of young and resilient future leaders. The units of 15 ACU (Townsville and Northern Beaches) and 130 ACU (Heatley and Charters Towers) were officially combined in a ceremony at Lavarack Barracks, Townsville.

Commander of the Australian Army Cadets, Brigadier David McCammon, said the linking of the units was part of the organisation’s enduring commitment to improve the cadet experience and had been wholly supported by the wider Townsville community. “The Australian Army Cadets is building initiatives that benefit cadets through continuous innovation and modernisation,” Brigadier McCammon said. “The creation of 15/130 ACU and their special facility on Australia’s largest military base has been welcomed and well supported by the local community, including the cadet’s neighbours, the Australian Army’s 3rd Brigade. I am particularly grateful for their ongoing assistance to the unit.”

Commander of the North Queensland Australian Army Cadet Brigade, Colonel Luke Hughes, said the investment in 15/130 ACU was also indicative of a broader desire to increase cadet participation in North Queensland. “As an inclusive organisation, Australian Army Cadets is seeking to grow across the region and assist communities in establishing further units”, Colonel Hughes said. “Whether you are a young person wanting to challenge yourself, or an adult interested in becoming a volunteer, cadets offers terrific development experiences. There has never been a better time than right now to join this marvellous organisation.”
