This year’s Submarine Institute of Australia (SIA) conference – the 6th Submarine Science,
Technology and Engineering Conference (SubSTEC6) – is set to go ahead, despite
restrictions because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The conference will take place at the Adelaide Convention Centre from 8-10 November and
its theme is “Home grown undersea technology: how can Australian academia and industry
provide a capability edge?”.

The SIA is putting in place several contingency options if in-person attendance is restricted.
SIA Executive Director, David Nicholls said: “The SIA is determined to proceed with
SubSTEC6, maintaining its status as the leading Indo-Pacific forum on submarines.
“Although there are currently pandemic lockdowns in place across south-eastern Australia,
the SIA is prioritising in-person attendance by speakers and delegates at the conference.
“However, if there are still travel/attendance restrictions in place at the time of the
conference, the event will be able to proceed in a hybrid format – with both in-person
attendance and online participation.

“If you register to attend the conference in person now, but you are unable to do so because of restrictions, the SIA will transfer your registration to online participation, should you wish to take up this option.

“There is also an option to receive a refund.

“This should assist with enabling delegates and speakers to plan with a level of confidence
that SubSTEC6 will go ahead.

who have accepted our invitation to present and delegates who have already registered.”
The SIA is in the process of finalising the line-up of speakers for the conference.
