Hanwha Defence Australia (HDA) and Elphinstone of Tasmania have signed a contract for the manufacture of all 129 Redback vehicle hull structures under LAND 400 Phase 3. The work to be conducted by Elphinstone under the contract is valued at approximately A$90 million and will sustain employment for approximately 95 personnel, at the company’s site in Wynyard, North-West Tasmania, over the course of project. This contract marks a further continuation of the relationship between the two companies, enhancing Australia’s sovereign Defence Industry manufacturing capability.

“By continuing our relationship with Elphinstone, HDA will be able to synchronise and strengthen delivery of our current programs,” HDA, Acting Managing Director Dean Michie said. “More than a contract award, this milestone helps deliver HDA’s vision of creating a highly skilled, sovereign industrial base and uplifting Australian industry. HDA is already working with Elphinstone on the LAND 8116 Phase 1 Protected Mobile Fires program for the Huntsman family of vehicles. This is a strong foundation that we are building together to demonstrate the high technology vehicle manufacturing capability of both companies in Australia, that is globally competitive.”
“We are very excited to enter a second major contract with Hanwha, following the 2022 contract for Huntsman vehicles under LAND 8116 Phase 1,” said Ben Sandow, General Manager of Elphinstone. “We are proud to play a significant role in Australia’s Defence Industry. While our focus is now firmly on the successful execution of the current Huntsman and Redback programs, we have established a capability which is unique in Australia. We are poised to continue to manufacture for the Defence Industry well into the future.”
