MSHD 2973 DigitalDisplay AUDefence 728x90Australia’s commitment to regional security and stability continues with Australia’s annual regional engagement activity, the Indo-Pacific Endeavour (IPE), commencing for 2025. IPE 2025 encompasses six months of collaborative engagements to foster diplomatic and defence ties with countries across Southeast Asia and the Northeast Indian Ocean.

Defence personnel will travel from Australia to participate in workshops, engagements and knowledge exchanges in Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam. This year’s program includes military-to-military and wider government engagements across key areas, including human capital and culture; innovation; humanitarian assistance and disaster relief; maritime security and law; and English language training.

Chief of Joint Operations Vice Admiral Justin Jones said: “This year’s IPE activities focus on practical cooperation, particularly in maritime enforcement and disaster response, which are critical for regional resilience. IPE25 is a clear demonstration of Australia’s commitment to openness, transparency, and respect for sovereignty; with activities that are safe, professional, and reflect current security and defence issues. Through IPE engagements we are strengthening our people-to-people and inter-agency relationships within our region, achieving a common understanding of shared security challenges.”

Commander IPE 2025 Brigadier Jennifer Harris said: “Since its establishment in 2017, IPE has evolved into a program that is flexible, tailored and nuanced in how we engage our regional partners. IPE25 is not just about military cooperation – it’s about building lasting connections through training, cultural exchange, and shared experiences. We’re able to conduct a broad range of knowledge exchange and workshops under IPE25, from shared security challenges, to maritime law, through to cultural foundations such as faith-based engagements, and community initiatives.”
