Boeing Australia’s Donna Duffy and Dr Yan Yang are leading technical excellence and innovation within the enterprise after being selected to join the prestigious Boeing Technical Fellowship Program. This accolade has seen them become the first two female Associate Technical Fellows (ATFs) in Australia; inspiring leaders and role models within Boeing’s technical community.

“Donna and Yan’s selection to join the Boeing Technical Fellowship Program is an incredible achievement,” said Stephen Hudson, BDA chief engineer and Associate Technical Fellow. “Their technical brilliance brings great value to the company.”

After excelling during the program’s rigorous selection and interview process, Duffy and Yang were invited to join other recognised experts from diverse technical areas to solve key technical challenges across the business.

The Technical Fellowship Program is an enterprise-wide accolade. There are 1,550 male and female fellows at various levels across the business globally.

Duffy, principal human systems engineering specialist, Systems Engineering, Integration & Test, was selected due to her expertise and outstanding leadership as an authority on human factors. She specialises in designing systems which improve safety and enhance user performance. “I am incredibly proud and hope this inspires others to consider the technical fellowship path,” Duffy said.

Yang, technical lead, Phantom Works – International was selected in recognition of her work and impact on the technological advancement in her primary area of expertise – cyber and artificial intelligence: computer vision and machine learning. “It’s extremely rewarding for Donna and I to be the first female ATFs in Australia – and I am sure we won’t be the last,” Yang said. “We are living in a technological era where anyone, regardless of your gender or background, has the capacity to promote technical excellence and become the engineer you once dreamed of being.”
