Flying Operations for Exercise PITCH BLACK 14 have commenced over the Northern
Aircraft from Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Thailand and Australia have begun operating from RAAF Base Darwin, while at RAAF Base Tindal, more Australian aircraft are working alongside counterparts from the United States and French New Caledonia.
The first day of flying operations for Exercise PITCH BLACK 14 coincided with the Darwin Cup at Fannie Bay.
Group Captain Robert Chipman, Commander Task Unit for Exercise Pitch Black 14, said Air Force and Darwin Cup Race Officials worked closely together to ensure aircraft departing RAAF Base Darwin were timed to occur outside of the races.
“Our close cooperation with the Darwin Cup organisers is one example of Air Force’s commitment to working hand-in-hand with local communities,” Group Captain Chipman said. “We appreciate the continued support of the Northern Territory community throughout Exercise Pitch Black 14.”
For the week of August 4-8, aircraft will operate from RAAF Bases Darwin and Tindal for a morning wave between 9am and 12pm, and an afternoon wave from 2.30pm and 6pm.
From August 11-15 and 18-22, aircraft will switch to one daytime wave and one night-time wave, with flying to cease by 11pm each night.
