More than 85 Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel have been farewelled at RAAF Base Amberley ahead of their upcoming deployment to the Middle East. The ADF contingent, comprised of Army’s 17th Sustainment Brigade and other units across Australia, will deploy on a six-month rotation as part of the Force Support Element – 13.
Minister for Defence Linda Reynolds recognised the service of ADF personnel as well as their families and friends who make their service possible. “The Force Support Element – 13 will provide critical logistics support to ADF personnel deployed as part of Operations Accordion and Highroad in the Middle East,” Reynolds said. “I am incredibly proud of each and every one of our personnel who support Australia’s contribution to regional and global security in the Middle East…I also thank their families and friends because without their support, the deployment of our personnel would not be possible.”
Commander 1st Division Major General Jake Ellwood in his address at the parade said the event marked the end of seven-week pre-deployment training for the members of Force Support Element – 13. “Our men and women are equipped, trained and ready to represent our nation on this important mission and I thank them for their contribution to Defence,” Ellwood said.
