Exail.comBirdon said it has appointed Mark Albertson as the new Executive General Manager of Maritime, effective from 1 July 2024. Albertson joins Birdon at a pivotal time in the company’s growth, bringing with him a wealth of experience and expertise from the defence and heavy industries sectors.

Albertson’s most recent role as Executive Manager Operations at the Australian Submarine Corporation (ASC) in Henderson, Perth, saw him leading a team of 1,500 employees and overseeing operations in both Adelaide and Henderson. His responsibilities at ASC included defining production engineering, planning requirements, and ensuring production quality and project schedule delivery. Albertson’s leadership was instrumental in building capability and innovation to deliver efficient and effective operations.

With a career that began in the Royal Australian Navy in Aviation Maintenance Engineering, Albertson has since made significant contributions to the Mining & Utilities sector. His roles have included Director Asset Management at Newmont Mining in the U.S., as well as executive and general management positions at CS Energy and MMG.

Albertson is recognised for his exceptional leadership in health and safety, cultural improvement, and operational leadership. His ability to identify and address critical business requirements has consistently resulted in enhanced safety, productivity, and efficiency.

As Birdon embarks on some of its largest Australian Defence projects to date, Albertson’s  experience with Defence Prime contracting and his familiarity with the Henderson precinct will be invaluable. His appointment reflects Birdon’s commitment to Defence and its strategic vision for the future.
