Diversified marine services business, Birdon, has further strengthened its Australian Advisory Board with the recent appointment of Major General David Mulhall, DSC, AM, CSC (R’etd) as an Independent Advisor. This follows on from the appointment of former Cimic Chief Executive Officer Michael Wright to the Australian Advisory Board in 2021.
Mulhall brings deep insight into the capability and sustainment needs of the Australian Defence Force gained through 36 years of service in Army and his role as Senior Advisor to the Minister for Defence. His strategic acumen and exceptional military logistics expertise – Commander Joint Logistics, Deputy Chief of Staff – Support HQISAF / HQ RS in Afghanistan, and Commander 17th Combat Service Support Brigade – had Mulhall sought out for a senior position in the National COVID Vaccine Task Force, and more recently by a range of corporate clients.
Birdon’s Executive Chairman Dr. John White said “In preparation for our next growth phase, we continue to enhance the Australian Advisory Board with a diverse range of skills and expertise. We are very pleased that we can attract people of the calibre of David – his significant experience and insight will prove extremely valuable as Birdon increases its investment in the Australian Defence sector.”
“I’m thrilled to be involved with an Australian-owned company that values invention and engineering excellence, a company that creates intellectual property and is singularly focused on delivering world-class products,” Mulhall said. “Birdon just gets on with the job. Its ability to understand demanding capability requirements and then apply Australian design and engineering expertise to deliver solutions well beyond those needs is deeply impressive” he added.
Birdon has also announced the creation of a dedicated Defence division to deliver their increasing portfolio of Defence projects. Joe Smith, who joined Birdon at the start of the year after a decade at Naval Ship Management (NSM), will lead the newly formed division.
