DomeShelter Australia was recently selected by the Royal Australian Air Force’s Air Warfare Centre to supply two DomeShelter Kits for use as hangars. The hangars can be rapidly erected and dismantled, providing flexibility when deploying aircraft for training in the nation’s north.
The Kits are the first sold to the RAAF and are a milestone for the West Australian SME. Company Director Trevor Fawkes said “We’ve been delivering our Shelters across Australia and the globe for over 25 years now, primarily to Mining and Oil & Gas clients. Defence has many uses for Fabric Structures, and these are the first of many we may supply to meet the ADF’s needs.”
The two DomeShelter Kits were designed and manufactured in Australia. When installed onto 20-foot shipping containers, they create cyclone rated, fire retardant hangars that are easily erected and quickly re-deployable. The sale comes after an 18-month campaign to enter the Defence market, having identified an ongoing and increasing need for rapidly deployable infrastructure within the ADF and Defence industry.
The government has stated that Australia must have a fully integrated ADF that can affect a strategy of denial through the application of a number of critical capabilities including a networked expeditionary air operations capability. DomeShelter Australia’s cost-effective rapid infrastructure is suitable for rapid or interim capability upgrades, relocatable and Deployable Force Infrastructure, as well as permanent infrastructure on ADF bases. The acquisition of these Kits by the RAAF is a demonstration of how the Integrated Force can simultaneously meet government direction in responding to the DSR and support Australian SMEs.
