LAND 400 MEANS MORE JOBS FOR MELBOURNE’S NORTH
The Andrews Labor Government is continuing its fight to secure the LAND 400 military vehicle contract which would create new highly-skilled jobs for the defence supply chain in Melbourne’s north.
Member for Broadmeadows Frank McGuire today visited DVR Engineering in Coolaroo – an advanced manufacturing business which produces high-hardness armour components for the defence industry.
These components are helping save lives and make the job safer for Australian defence troops.
DVR Engineering has been chosen as a teaming partner by BAE Systems Australia to build vehicle components for the new fleet of Combat Reconnaissance Vehicles – should BAE be successful in its for LAND 400 Phase 2.
The LAND 400 Phase 2 project is worth around $5 billion and would create more than 2,000 manufacturing and supply chain jobs in Victoria.
It’s good news for local defence supply chain manufacturers in some of the areas hardest hit by the closure of local car manufacturing.
Established in 1988, DVR Engineering has approximately 100 employees at its Coolaroo site.
The company has worked on the Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicle and is currently working on the Hawkei protected mobility vehicle project.
Victoria has an outstanding track record in the design, development and manufacture of military vehicles.
The state’s defence sector is worth $8 billion to the local economy every year, and is made up of about 20,000 people and 400 businesses.
