Saber Astronautics has opened its new research and development laboratory in Chippendale, with Anoulack Chanthivong MP NSW Minister for Innovation, Science and Technology recognising the company’s 18-year contribution to the state’s innovation and space sector. Saber’s NSW laboratory delivers mission-critical space operations software used in continuous operations by space services worldwide. The company also pioneered capabilities which are now, through a US laboratory, deployed to the United States Space Force and allied partners.
This new Chippendale laboratory marks the next phase of Saber’s growth, building civil space traffic management and space logistics systems as orbital activity accelerates and becomes increasingly complex. The facility will also explore advanced architectures designed to develop new capabilities not previously delivered at scale in the space domain.
Over nearly two decades, Saber has supported satellite operators, defence organisations and commercial space companies with operational planning, simulation and command-and-control software. The company’s tools are designed to improve safety, coordination and efficiency in an increasingly congested space environment. The software is used in their own mission control centres at the Australian Space Agency headquarters and in Colorado.
The new facility strengthens NSW’s position within the global space economy and supports the continued development of high value engineering and software expertise in Sydney.
