Serco Australia will continue its work with Soldier On as a Platinum Pledge partner, helping to secure the future of veterans and their families.
Serco Defence Managing Director Clint Thomas, together with Soldier On’s Interim CEO, Prue Slaughter, formalised the partnership at a pledge signing ceremony on 23 November. Thomas said he was delighted to continue the important partnership with Soldier On as Serco further commits to developing a robust veteran and reservist workforce across Australia. “Serco has supported Soldier On as a platinum partner since 2018, and proudly employs 550 veterans and 180 reservists across Australia ensuring veterans and their families have opportunities to thrive in line with Soldier On’s vision. As a veteran of the Royal Australian Navy myself, I am incredibly proud of Serco’s commitment to support our veteran community,” Thomas said.
Recognising the immense value veterans bring to the team, Serco strives to attract, engage and retain top talent of transitioning, former, reserve and military family members, and is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where veterans are set up for success. “As a trusted partner of the Australian Defence Force (ADF), it is critical that Serco has and maintains a comprehensive understanding of their unique operational environment and requirements – and our veteran workforce allows us to do this,” Thomas said.
Soldier On Interim CEO, Prue Slaughter said the organisation was delighted to have the ongoing support of Serco. “As Soldier On continues to grow, we can expand our services such as The Pathways Program to enable more veterans and their families to thrive, by providing more opportunities of education and employment. This year Serco was recognised as a finalist in the 2022 Prime Minister’s National Veterans’ Employment Awards for the second year running and received an Honourable Mention in the 2022 ADF Reserves and Employer Support Awards. This in addition to being named ‘Estate & Infrastructure Business of the Year’ at the 2022 Defence Connect Australian Defence Industry Awards.
“We are a leading member of the Industry Advisory Committee (IAC) on Veterans’ Employment and actively contributing to formulation of Ministerial advice and collaborate on policy development; supporting ADF Transition Seminars to provide career advice and mentorship for service members preparing to transition to civilian life as well as the Soldier-On Pathways Program. We have also established a Veterans, Reservists and Defence Family Members Advisory Committee (VRFAC) that actively engages with our Veteran community, to develop policy and systems to support and drive improvement initiatives across the business,” Thomas said. “With hundreds of veterans working across our Australian business, and even more globally, we are privileged to call veterans our colleagues while supporting their transition from the ADF to civilian life, setting them up for success with rewarding and meaningful career opportunities.”
