$665m battlefield communication contract signed

The Commonwealth Department of Defence made a $665 million military communications network upgrade contract with Boeing Defence Australia.

The contract between the Department of Defence and Boeing Defence Australia is for a new battlefield communications network as part of Project LAND 2072 Phase 2B.

Anthony Willis from DLP Piper.. in house councel for the Department said “The signature of this contract follows a long and detailed process, and represents a significant milestone in achieving a critical upgrade to the army’s battlespace communications network.”

The Department of Defence will replace ageing mobile communication systems and computer networks with a modern, digital communications system.

The new system will be designed and developed by Boeing to support the deployment of operational headquarters and enable access to strategic networks.
