AUSMIN DATES ANNOUNCED
We will join United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis at the Hoover Institute at Stanford University, California on 23 and 24 July for the 2018 Australia-United States Ministerial Consultations (AUSMIN).
Holding this year’s AUSMIN on the west coast of the United States is a strong acknowledgement of the extensive interests we share in the Indo-Pacific region. Established in 1985, AUSMIN is the principal forum for Australia-US cooperation on strategic, foreign and defence policy. It takes place annually, alternating between Australia and the United States.
AUSMIN 2018 will further strengthen the Australia-US Alliance – established with the ANZUS Treaty in 1951, and deepened through almost 70 years of close partnership in war and peace.
The Australia–US Alliance is vital to our security and prosperity.
During AUSMIN we will reinforce our shared commitment to supporting an Indo-Pacific that is peaceful, open, prosperous and adheres to the international rules-based order. We will discuss how we can work together to promote infrastructure development, economic growth, strong governance and maritime security in the region.
We will also discuss cooperation on North Korea, continued coordination on countering terrorism and violent extremism, including in partnership with regional governments, and our longstanding contribution to improving security in the Middle East.
