Boeing contracts BAE Systems to continue RAAF Wedgetail EW sub-systems support

BAE Systems has signed a five-year contract extension with Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) to continue providing support for the electronic warfare sub-systems onboard the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) six Wedgetail Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft.

This US$71.19 million (AU$77 million) contract is a sub contract to Wedgetail support prime contract awarded to BDA by the Australian Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) in Q1 2014.

As a subcontractor, BAE will provide engineering, maintenance and spares support for the Wedgetail electronic warfare suite. This state-of-the-art equipment will be operated by onboard sensor specialists to locate and identify radar emitters, and to protect the aircraft from potential missile threats.

The current contract is an extension to a US$43.04 million In-Service Support (ISS) contract signed in February 2012.

This extension contract has been issued in March 2014 and is expected to be continued until mid-2019.
