Sierra NevandaSouth Australian electronic warfare company DEWC Services has been recognised as one of the nation’s top graduate employers, signalling its commitment to investing in the state’s next generation defence industry workforce. DEWC Services is one of three South Australian-headquartered companies and the only small to medium SA business to be part of the 2023 Australian Association of Graduate Employers (AAGE) Top Graduate Employers list.

The company, which has been developing game-changing Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance and Electronic Warfare (ISREW) solutions for the Department of Defence for more than a decade, provides a tailored graduate development program which includes on-the-job training and mentorship for graduates to work on cutting-edge Defence technologies.

DEWC Services CEO Allan Dundas said the company was proud to offer a unique graduate development program that is helping grow a sustainable technical workforce for Defence, both now and into the future. “Our graduate program is cultivating some of the brightest minds to develop innovative solutions for the Australian Defence Force and build a successful career in the defence industry,” Dundas said. “Graduates have the opportunity to work closely with some of the country’s most experienced defence engineers, scientists and technicians, who are sharing their experience and providing mentorship to build the future talent pool. There are significant workforce challenges currently being experienced by Defence industry, based on increased competition for limited workforce resources. Graduates provide a valuable resource from which an effective and capable workforce can be developed over the longer term as an investment in the future of industry support to Defence.”

DEWC Services Chief Technology Officer Vern Collins said the graduate development program was launched in late 2020 to boost local talent across the ISREW and cyber workforce. A broad range of skilled graduates across engineering, science and cyber streams have successfully completed the program and have since gained ongoing employment in the defence industry.

“DEWC Services made a strategic decision to significantly increase its investment in graduate recruitment to provide a foundation from which an expanded ISREW and cyber workforce could be grown in the company from the ground up,” Collins said. “We offer a flexible program, which is tailored as much as possible to satisfy the individual preferences and aspirations of graduates.”

The two-year program is designed to upskill and create job-ready graduates in ISREW and cyber streams through application of their fundamental tertiary learnings, developing further vocational skills integrated with on-the-job training. The program supports graduates to gain valuable technical, personal and communication skills in applied roles where they can directly contribute to Defence capability. The AAGE Top Graduate Employer ranking is based on first-hand ratings and feedback from graduates who spend at least 12 months with their employer.
