Minister for Defence Industry launches Boeing Defence Australia’s Reconciliation Action Plan
Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, has helped to launch Boeing Defence Australia’s first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).
As one of the first defence prime contractors to join the RAP program, Boeing Defence Australia will focus its efforts on supply chain diversity and positively engaging with Indigenous-owned businesses.
Boeing Defence Australia’s Managing Director and Vice President, Darren Edwards, said Boeing’s commitment to the RAP program will help to provide opportunities to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities in the defence industry.
“The Australian Government announced earlier this year that it was strengthening the requirements for Australian involvement including positive engagement with Indigenous Business Enterprises”, said Edwards.
“As participants in the RAP program we have committed to a framework that will see Boeing Defence Australia proactively look for ways to maximize our involvement and engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and businesses.”
The Boeing Defence Australia RAP launch event held at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra showcased artwork by emerging Aboriginal artist, Sarrita King and was attended by the Department of Defence, Indigenous Defence Consortium, Supply Nation, Reconciliation Australia and the Centre for Defence Industry Capability.
Delivered by Reconciliation Australia, the RAP program helps organisations, like Boeing Defence Australia, implement practical actions that build respectful relationships and create opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
