Navantia Australia selects Melbourne for Australian industry engagement forums

Navantia Australia will today host representatives from Victorian businesses at its Future Frigate industry engagement forum in Melbourne’s CBD. Attendees at Engineers Australia will receive briefings on opportunities for Australian industry to participate in Navantia Australia’s offering in areas as diverse as ship works, mechanical and electrical systems, electronic systems, and program support services.

“Victoria has a deep history in the shipbuilding industry. It’s elements of this history which will strengthen Navantia’s plan for growth in Australia,” said Francisco Barón, Managing Director of Navantia Australia.

“Australian industry has a strong track record on naval programs such as the Navantia-designed Air Warfare Destroyer. We see opportunities for companies from Victoria to have strong participation not only in upcoming Australian programs, but also in ships provided by Navantia to customers around the world.”

The over 100 people currently employed by Navantia Australia operate out of four facilities around the country, with plans to open an additional Australian facility by 2018.

Navantia is currently participating in the Competitive Evaluation Process for the Future Frigate Program, and is seeking interested Australian companies to participate in the design and construction of Australia’s next generation of naval vessels.

Navantia’s industry days will run throughout February, March and April. All interested companies are invited to register their interest through www.navantiasea5000.icn.org.au.
