UMIS ImageSaab Australia (Saab) has opened its expanded Melbourne office to accommodate the rapid growth of its Victorian workforce and support the successful delivery of major defence and security projects. Supported by the Victorian Government, the expanded facility will include a Centre of Excellence for the integration of uncrewed systems into the Saab Combat Management System.

Over the next two years Saab will create 60 highly skilled ongoing jobs in Melbourne, with a focus on recruiting software and systems engineers, project professionals and electronics technicians. This growth will increase Saab’s Victorian workforce to around 120 employees, up from 10 in early 2020.

“Saab has ambitious growth plans and we’ve identified Melbourne as an attractive place to invest and recruit talented people,” said Saab Australia Managing Director, Andy Keough. “We’ve been delivering complex systems integration in Australia for over 30 years and we’re pleased to have the support of the Victorian Government to continue creating jobs as we introduce new technology and further develop our sovereign combat management system capabilities.”

Since opening its Hawthorn facility in 2021, Saab has significantly grown its Victorian workforce and established the Deployable Healthcare Centre of Excellence, including transferring technology and IP from Sweden to Australia to strengthen sovereign capability and create export opportunities.

Saab is investing in a major national expansion program to support its strong growth and underpin the successful delivery of defence and security contracts. This includes a new office in Canberra, the Deployable Health Capability Support Centre in Brisbane and the Sovereign Combat System Collaboration Centre and office expansion in Adelaide.
