ElbitASC, Australia’s submarine company, has renewed its longstanding supply chain partnership with MacTaggart Scott Australia (MTSA).

“ASC are pleased to extend our supply chain partnership with MTSA who are an integral part of the Collins Enterprise,” ASC’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Stuart Whiley said.

MTSA Director Peter Richings said the new contract will give greater security to the company and its suppliers. “It enables MTSA to plan further ahead, and there are in excess of 70 companies that will benefit from this contract,” he said. “MTSA has changed its supply chain significantly since it was formed, and can now boast that it uses more than 80% local industry.”

MTSA was established in 2011 to work with its main customer, ASC – Australia’s submarine builder and sustainer.

“This contract also helps us to further develop the research and development products to bring them to fruition,” Richings said. “It highlights the close working relationship between ASC and MTSA, which together benefits the Collins Class Submarine and the sustainability of the class.”

MTSA is the Australian-subsidiary of MacTaggart Scott – a global entity based in Scotland supporting the manufacture of key systems in the naval defence industry, employing 350 people across three countries with a turnover of around AUD $69.6 million.

“Despite our small size, MTSA has been conducting research and development with the Defence Material Technology Centre, Swinburne University, Defence Science and Technology Group and Laserbond, into advanced coatings to extend the life of various Collins Class components, as well as looking at lighter composite items while retaining the material properties critical to product quality and safety,” Richings said.
