Singapore’s Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) and France’s Icarus Swarms have signed a Collaboration Agreement to co-develop capabilities in autonomous control of multiple Unmanned Systems (UxV). Through this partnership, DSTA aims to harness Icarus Swarms’ expertise in autonomous swarming to enhance the Singapore Armed Forces’ (SAF) unmanned capabilities.
The collaboration will focus on the development of smart algorithms for autonomous control of multiple UxVs, and integration of these algorithms onto different UxVs. Both parties will jointly explore solutions to enhance communications resiliency. They will also co-develop and test how UxVs can autonomously detect and respond to objects of interest, enabling warfighters to make informed decisions swiftly.
DSTA’s Director Land Systems, Mr Alex Lee said, “As the security landscape continues to evolve, the ability to harness autonomous technologies is cardinal. This partnership will allow DSTA to develop innovative solutions that will help the SAF achieve mission success.”
Icarus Swarms’ Chief Research Officer Serge Chaumette said, “We believe that tomorrow’s defence capabilities will be shaped by autonomous, adaptable, and mission-specific systems. That’s why we are committed to developing drone swarms that are not only intelligent, but also modular, capable of carrying the right sensors and payloads for each unique operation.
