Lockheed Martin opens A$10m cyber-security centre in Australia
Lockheed Martin has opened a Security Intelligence Centre in Australia in a move that underscores the nation’s reputation for a highly educated workforce and robust technology industry.
The centre, in the Canberra suburb of Kingston, is the next leg of Lockheed Martin’s international expansion of its cyber-defence network. The centre builds on more than A$10 million worth of investment in consolidating Lockheed Martin’s operations in Canberra into a single facility.
It also enhances Australia’s reputation for a highly competitive information communication and technology (ICT) industry and a highly educated, highly skilled workforce. ICT spending across the country is projected to reach A$63 billion in 2013, one of the highest in the Asia-Pacific region.
‘Lockheed Martin intends to lead the way in finding cyber-tech solutions that make our country safer, and to create cyber-professional jobs that meet Australia’s national security challenges today and tomorrow,’ said Lockheed Martin Australia Chief Executive Raydon Gates.
‘The establishment of this newest centre is just the next phase in our commitment to Australia’s cyber-security, technological and economic evolution,’ Mr Gates said in a statement.
The Australian centre follows the establishment last year in Canberra of an Information Systems & Global Solutions NexGen Cyber Information and Technology Centre.
The Australian centre is Lockheed Martin’s fourth centre worldwide. The centres focus on staying ahead of rapidly developing threats in cyber-space.
Highly trained Australian cyber-intelligence analysts from Lockheed Martin Australia will staff the centre, the company said. They will integrate their local operations into Lockheed Martin’s global computer network defence, while developing their own intrinsic strengths, and contribute to an active global cyber-capability exchange.
Lockheed Martin Australia is wholly owned by global security and aerospace company Lockheed Martin. Lockheed Martin Australia employs more than 700 people Australia wide. Turnover in 2012 exceeded A$200 million. US parent Lockheed Martin employs about 116,000 people worldwide in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration, and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products, and services. The Corporation’s net sales for 2012 were US$47.2 billion.
